trauma dumping #01: f*ck therapy, i need to do mushrooms and email my dad (Zine, 2024)
trauma dumping is a zine series written as incredibly intimate personal letters.
On the concept of “trauma dumping”: Content/Trigger warnings are a courtesy. The nature of my work is very emotionally raw and visceral. I don’t necessarily describe physical abuses in detail, but I do reference my experiences of trauma including, but not limited to: sexual assault (including as a minor), body dysmorphia, weight stigma, disordered eating, emotional neglect, disability, racism, homophobia, gendered violence, online stalking, and bullying.
#01: f*ck therapy, i need to do mushrooms and email my dad
I have a complicated relationship with my father, a biracial Haitian immigrant. He and my mother split up when I was very young, and I grew up seeing him once or twice a year. During those visits, he was often incredibly critical, as many immigrant parents are. We struggled to relate to one another. Over the last few years, we have been trying to build some semblance of a relationship. This zine is an email I wrote to him while on mushrooms at the tail end of 2024. Yes, I sent it to him.
This is a physical product. A downloadable PDF version is available here.
